BE ACTIVE

If you're always looking on your phone when your child is talking to you, why should that child pay attention to you when you need his or her attention? If you talk disrespectfully to your spouse, in the full glare of your child, how do you expect your child to talk to your spouse ? As they say in Mozambique, if you call your pot a worthless pot, others will join you to use it to pack rubbish. Before you go off on your child for having an attitude towards you, pause long enough to find out if that attitude is not a mirror reflection of your character issues. You may not be the one negatively influencing your child, but you may be doing so indirectly. The kind of tv shows you watch together, the kind of friends you entertain, the unlimited freedom you've given to your child to surf the internet and so on, are all affecting your child. The earlier you start taking keen interest in your child's welfare , the better it is for you and that child. Like Frederick Douglass once said, "It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men." Don't be passive. Be active!
