Be Ready

My mother used to say if someone advises you, you need to also advise yourself. I am not sure whether that's her own proverb or a general African proverb. But what I know is that it has a lot of wisdom in it. Simply because someone you know gives you advice does not mean you are obliged to accept that advice. No. You need to think through it to see whether it's best for you. If it best for you, take it. And if not, you don't. But you see, the good advice is often time sensitive. If we take it, we become blessed. If we don't take it, later when we realize we should have taken it, it becomes belated. That's why we need to take time to think through any advice we get. The fact is: not everyone gets to be advised well. So when you get any good advise, don't squander it. And depending on how you treat a good advice, it will tell your adviser whether or not you deserve more. We all need good advise. Only a fool frown on good advice. As they say in Egypt, advise a fool and you will be his enemy. Don't be opposed to wisdom. Be open to it. Be ready!
